The sea scout’s last sailing weekend coincides with Bart’s Bash, the world record attempt for the Largest Sailing Race. \u00a0As well as being involved in this. the sea scout’s are also doing an endurance sail to raise money for their group by sailing one of their boats for six hours. \u00a0So, it was going to be a busy day.<\/p>\n

Bart’s Bash was set up in memory of Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, the Olympic gold and silver medalist in the Star class. \u00a0He was tragically killed last year while training for the America’s Cup in San Francisco when the catamaran he was crewing on, capsized. \u00a0Money raised from the event goes to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation that uses sailing to transform the lives of young people. \u00a0Watching the cubs and scouts out on the water we know how amazing sailing can be for a child’s independence and belief in themselves.<\/p>\n

The sea scout’s sailing leader, Paul, organised all the children and all 8 boats were soon out on the very, very busy water. \u00a0With blue skies and a good wind it was pretty fabulous conditions.<\/p>\n

Back on the beach the Littlest has found a friend for the day and together they play before settling on a rug and making pebble ‘people’. \u00a0She is kept entertained all day even finding the odd crab (live and dead) and some little fish too.<\/p>\n

Gradually, as the day went on, boats left the water and were pulled onto the beach and it was just the sea scouts continuing their six hours on the water together with a handful of kite surfers.<\/p>\n

Whilst our Gerald Durrell was only on the water in the morning, the Boy and the Eldest were out all day. \u00a0As the six hours were coming to an end, the tide was far out which led to<\/p>\n

rather a lot of the sea scouts getting onto one of the Visions in the shallow water. \u00a0Much fun was obviously had by all in aid of two great causes.<\/p>\n
