Sailing with the 2nd Andover Sea Scouts

Today saw the  Boy’s first sailing adventure with the 2nd Andover Sea Scouts at Calshot Sailing Club on the South coast.  The entire family came along to ‘support’ him and much to the girl’s delight (and his horror), they all managed to get a lot of time sailing; including Father of the Tribe.

The 2nd Andover Sea Scouts, based at East Cholderton were founded in 1910 by Dr Paul Walker when they were originally known as the 1st Amport St Mary’s.  In 1912 they merged with Monxton’s Scout Troup and became the 2nd Andover Troup.   Boy is still pretty new at Sea Scouts having only joined once the SATs exams were over…

The sailing instructors were all excellent ensuring that all the sea scouts and cubs were safe, learnt a lot and most importantly had a great deal of fun on the water.  With a rib, 2 Laser Picos, an RS Vision and 3 Topper they have a pretty impressive amount of kit for the boys who  made it to the coast.  Half a dozen families lined the pebbly beach with rugs, chairs and picnics and although I didn’t manage to get on the water I did enjoy just sitting, watching and

reading – I can’t really remember the last time that I did that!  We all look forward to a successful and long summer of our Boy sailing with the Sea Scouts.

Meanwhile, the Littlest spent an afternoon on the beach (in ‘her’ wet suit) ‘making’ loom bracelets; ‘Be prepared’ is a mother’s motto.image
