Thoughts of Blighty – April 2013

This month the eldest of the Tribe is submitting a poem that she wrote at school, entitled ‘I love my home country’. Abbotts Ann is obviously still close to her heart.

Surrounding the glimmering River Thames,
Stands the majestic Houses of Parliament.
The monumental London Eye and immense Big Ben,
All of those wonderful buildings form my birthplace; London.
Next to the River Thames is where my life began.

Your elephantine buildings and glistening waters of the Thames,
I love the rustling caramel leaves in the long Autumn months,
And the thick sheets of snow that layer up on the ground,
I will show my patriotism and loyalty always,
The wonderful parks that I love to walk around,
And the huge apartment that I used to live in.

Out of London on a two hour drive,
In Hampshire,
My second home and love,
Through the town and through busy roads,
Is a small village, Abbotts Ann.

A picturesque village,
With psychedelic fields of green,
And beautiful evergreens everywhere,
The small village school I can remember deeply,
And stables of horses and ponies.

Seeing the village forms a warm glow in my heart,
Abbotts Ann is where my heart is and always will be.

To smell the fresh air of the village,
And to hear the trickling water of the brook
Is enough for me to love it.
